January 5, 2016 – Faith & Politics: Muslims in America
Season 9, Episode 1
It’s one of the hottest and most controversial topics in our modern political debate, so on this installment of Friends Talking Faith with The Three Wise Guys we’ll discuss faith, politics, and the current issues regarding Muslims in America. It is engraved on a bronze plaque on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, a sonnet written by the American poet Emma Lazarus. It’s final words surely represent some of the most oft uttered phrases in the American conversation:
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
But some politicians and pundits would have us believe that that does not include Muslims – whether they be immigrants, or American citizens – So with both faith and basic American values guiding us – we’ll discuss this issue. Muslims in America, the debate, our faith, and what to say “around the water cooler?” That conversation is on this episode of Friends Talking Faith.
