July 7, 2015 – Faith & Society: Tragedy in Charleston
Season 8, Episode 1
Less than three weeks ago Americans were horrified by news coming out of Charleston, South Carolina. On this episode of Friends Talking Faith with The Three Wise Guys, we discuss faith and the tragedy at a church in Charleston. The nation is still reeling from news of the senseless killing of nine worshippers attending a Wednesday night service at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church of Charleston, South Carolina. “Mother Emmanuel,” as church members refer to their beloved community, opened its doors for Sunday worship just four days after the massacre of three women and six men at their church. For them, it was an act of defiance against hatred, bigotry, and racism.
The victims and those who remember them. The alleged perpetrator of this heinous crime and his motivations. Issues of religion, racism, gun violence, mental illness, and the decision to continue to fly the confederate flag over the South Carolina Statehouse after the killings. We discuss all of it with a special guest, Mr. Jasjit Singh, on this installment of Friends Talking Faith. Mr. Singh brings his unique perspective to this conversation. We talk together about both what happened at Emmanuel AME Church and how our nation will go forward from this tragedy. Listen now to this episode of Friends Talking Faith.
