April 28, 2015 – Faith & Society: Expanding Healthcare Coverage
Season 7, Episode 17
People living in the healthcare gap is the issue on this episode of Friends Talking Faith with The Three Wise Guys. Listen is as we discuss faith, the working poor, and healthcare. It’s an issue that affects nearly one million low income, working Floridians. They exist in what is known as the gap – between qualifying for insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and qualifying for standard Medicaid. In 2012 the United States Supreme Court made it possible for states to opt-out of this gap funding, so as a protest to Obamacare, Florida lawmakers have refused to receive the gap Medicaid funding provided by the ACA, making it impossible for these Floridians to purchase health insurance.
Florida Chambers of commerce, business leaders, healthcare providers, and community leaders have banded together to plead with the Florida House of Representatives and the Governor to accept these much needed dollars. We’ll hear from two voices today, a leader in the healthcare community in Florida, and a person directly affected by this situation, who is unable to get insurance. Compassion and justice in the American healthcare debate on this installment of Friends Talking Faith.
