January 21, 2014 – Faith & Society: The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Season 4, Episode 3
The holiday honoring the life, work, and vision of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was established by the federal government and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1983. But the establishment of this day of special commemoration came only after traveling a long and difficult road. We’ll talk about the ways that our faith communities were involved in the American civil rights movement in the 1950′s and 60′s – then – we’ll take a look at where we are today. We’ll talk about the civil rights issues that we’re dealing with today? We’ll also ask the question, “how does our faith weigh-in on the current issues of civil rights?”
