It was President Abraham Lincoln in 1863 who finally created the federal holiday that we know as Thanksgiving in the United States… most Americans harken back to the observance in 1621 with Pilgrims and Native Americans sitting down to a fall harvest feast in Plymouth Massachusetts… but there have been many observances of Thanksgiving in the United States, some even predating the pilgrims at Plymouth. And it almost goes without saying, at the heart of most faith traditions there’s a strong and abiding sense of the importance of giving thanks.
