June 6, 2017 – Faith & Society: PULSE — One Year Later and Beyond
– with Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith and Mr. Marco Quiroga
Season 10, Episode 23
Today we pause as we reflect on where we have been and where we are going, one year later. This week on Friends Talking Faith with The Three Wise Guys we’ll discuss faith, the PULSE shooting, and a community’s response then – now – and into the future. It remains the most deadly public mass shooting in American history. In the early morning hours of June 12 the picture began to form in our minds that something terrible was happening. It would take several hours to learn of the scope of this horrendous crime against humanity. 49 dead, more than 50 wounded some critically, and the emotional and psychological trauma almost incalculable. In the hours, days, and weeks that followed the PULSE Nightclub massacre which was leveled against the LGBTQ plus, Latin-x, and other communities of color and risk – we would begin the slow process of healing and the long road of recognition of how many people have promoted ideas and attitudes which have helped heighten the risk to these individuals in our community so devastatingly affected by the murders and injuries at PULSE. Our guests, Mr. Marco Quiroga and Representative Carlos Guillermo Smith will help us sort out where we are now and what we must do in the future as so many in our community continue the process of healing from what happened that fateful night almost one year ago – we’ll talk about all of it on this episode of Friends Talking Faith.
