May 10, 2016 – Faith & Politics: Armed in America
Season 9, Episode 19
Have you seen the bumper sticker? God, Guns, and Guts – Three That Made Us Free! On this episode of Friends Talking Faith with The Three Wise Guys we’ll discuss faith and guns. Many of us are old enough to remember the words of Charlton Heston speaking for the National Rifle Association when he said, “… you’ll have to pry my gun out of my cold, dead hand.” The appeal to the second amendment is a continual chorus, especially during election season. There can be no doubt that many in America have a strong love of guns. Others, continue in their tireless efforts to curtail gun ownership in a variety of ways. People of faith come down in many different places on the continuum regarding guns. Today we’ll talk with documentary filmmaker Abigail Disney and the Rev. Rob Schenck about the film “The Armor of Light’ – it’s the story of Rev. Schenck, an evangelical pastor whose life intersects with Ms. Lucy McBath whose unarmed son was gunned down at a gas station in Jacksonville Florida by a man who believed he and his friends were playing their music too loud. We’ll talk with filmmaker Abigail Disney and the Rev. Rob Schenck (pictured here), in a thoughtful conversation around faith and guns. That’s on this installment of Friends Talking Faith.
