Faith & Society:
Our Treatment of Children and Families in Need
On this Christmas Day we remember Jakelin Caal Maquin, she was seven years old, excited to come to the United States from Guatemala – she died just 10 days ago some 27 hours after being taken into United States custody. On this Friends Talking Faith with The Three Wise Guys we’ll discuss faith, families, and children at risk. The story is heartbreaking, a father – Domingo – and his daughter – Jakelin – make the harrowing trek to America. Rather than being allowed to enter through legal checkpoints, asylum-seekers are pushed into remote and dangerous areas. Central to every faith tradition are stories of migrant families moving from one place to another. On this program we will talk about these stories and how they inform our attitudes about, behavior toward, and treatment of immigrant people and at-risk children. Our conversation about children, families, and how we treat them – that’s coming up on this episode of Friends Talking Faith.
