October 10, 2017 – Faith & Religion: Religious Liberty, Different Ideas
with The Rev. Danny de Armas
Season 10, Episode 41
Is “religious liberty” just a code word for fundamentalist Christians trying to make their religious ideas the law of the land? On this episode of Friends Talking Faith with The Three Wise Guys we’ll discuss faith, the idea of religious liberty, and how those ideas may differ — even among religious leaders. Religious liberty is at the bedrock of our American democracy. The First Amendment to the Constitution ensures that there will not be a government run religion, or, governmental favoritism regarding religion — and also gives us the assurance that people will be able to practice their own religion freely. But does this idea of religious liberty sometimes attempt to move beyond those constitutional protections? Our guest today is one of the chief architects of a “Summit on Religious Freedom” held in Central Florida every year. Our conversation with the Rev. Danny de Armas, Senior Associate Pastor at First Baptist Church, Orlando and one of the organizers of the annual “Summit on Religious Freedom” – That conversation is on this episode of Friends Talking Faith.
