September 5, 2017 – Faith & Society: Religion and the Subculture of Hate in America (Part 1 in a 4 Part Series)
with Rev. Danny de Armas and Dr. Joel Hunter
Season 10, Episode 36
Does religion contribute to the subculture of hate in America? This week on Friends Talking Faith with The Three Wise Guys we’ll discuss faith, and those who claim religion is their motivation for white supremacy and hate. “May you live in interesting times,” that is actually a Chinese curse. The white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, resulting in the death of 32-year-old Heather Heyer, and injuring many others, and a president unwilling to unequivocally condemn white supremacy have left the nation stunned and confused. Is this what the Chinese meant by “interesting times?” In this, the first in a four-part series entitled: The Subculture of Hate in America, we’ll talk with two friends: one a conservative Christian pastor; the other an evangelical pastor — about claims by some white supremacists that it is their Christian faith which upholds them in this philosophy. White supremacy, hate, and troubling times in America – our conversations with the Rev. Danny de Armas and the Rev. Dr. Joel Hunter – That conversation is on this episode of Friends Talking Faith.
