S10:E01 Human.Rights (1/3/17)

January 3, 2017 – Faith & Society: The Current Struggle for Human Rights

Season 10, Episode 1

Dr. James Harrington

Are human rights in trouble everywhere? — On this episode of Friends Talking Faith with The Three Wise Guys we discuss faith and the current struggle for human rights. Human Rights Watch — in its 2016 World Report — says this, “In Europe and the United States, a polarizing us-versus-them rhetoric has moved from the political fringe to the mainstream. Blatant Islamophobia and shameless demonizing of refugees have become the currency of an increasingly assertive politics of intolerance.” We’ll be joined today by a law professor who is also the founder of the Texas Civil Rights Project – he’ll help us sort out the question as to how the current attacks on journalism link to concerns about the erosion of human and civil rights, also, are we truly living in a post-factual society? The current struggle for human rights, the war against fact-based journalism, and much, much more – all that and more is on this installment of Friends Talking Faith.
