Friends Talking Faith

Faith & Relationships: Learning from Suffering Communities

with the Rev. Dr. James Morris and Ms. Martha McClary Suedmeyer

Tuesday, March 19 – 6:30 PM

Possibly the biggest threat to building what the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called the “Beloved Community” happens when we don’t “care to think” and “think to care.” On this Friends Talking Faith with The Three Wise Guys we will discuss faith, suffering communities, and what they teach us. All of the reports which have been released in recent months from reputable sources have shown the very same thing: racist attitudes, racist tendencies, and hate crimes have been on the rise, exponentially, during the last four years. We will talk with two individuals who will bring us their unique insights about this disturbing trend, we will continue to look at our responsibilities as faith leaders to address this issue of racism with thoughtfulness and care. Shouldn’t the responsibility of a faith leader be the same as that of a physician, “do no harm”? And isn’t our mandate to do all of the good we can to help everyone have a life of wholeness and hope – and demand that everyone be treated with dignity and respect? We will talk about all of this and more with our guests. Our conversation with the Rev. Dr. James Morris and Ms. Martha McClary Suedmeyer of Carter Tabernacle CME Church – that’s on this episode of Friends Talking Faith.

The Journey Continues

We’ve been doing it together for almost 15 years: talking and listening with each other as friends!  A Reform Rabbi, a Suni Imam, and a Congregational (UCC) Minister.  It has been a journey of ever deepening friendship and respect.  When you are friends first, then even when you disagree, you’re still friends.  It’s a model of interfaith relationship we believe is essential for people of faith, and those who claim no faith community at all.
